it’s weird out there: gift shopping in December

adrenaline shopper (mp3)

I promised some weird stuff and I’m pleased to say that I have two items that are indeed unusual and quirky respectively.

First the unusual find:

BFS

It’s called Generator Rex & the Big Fat Sword (BFS). Maybe it’s just me (though I doubt it) but I find the placement of Rex’s BFS to be more than a little evocative. Do I think the toy manufacturer is intentionally sending a double entendre through product packaging/branding/marketing? Who can say for sure? This type of marketing works so well on kids because it’s evocative and because they don’t really understand the subtle nuances (or often even literal adult content references).

For the record, I bought the toy as a stocking stuffer for my sister who’s in her 30s. I think she’s going to love it, as I do.

Second, the quirky find

Sunde Stationary

These are super-duper cute erasers from a Chinese company, Sunde Stationary. I am in love with these characters/erasers and their background story. I’m paraphrasing the story but it goes a little something like this, “It’s difficult to be no longer loved. Men are sky in love…” I bought this eraser pack as a stocking stuffer but I really want to keep it.

I’ll give it up though, I know it’s going to an excellent home.  A home where it will be sky in love. ;)
